Many of us still have Windows XP in our systems. But the visual style of the Windows Seven appeals all of us. So here are the tricks to change the look and feel of XP to 7. Just follow these steps one by one:
For overall style of Win 7, download and install Seven Remix XP v2.3.1 from Niwradsoft. It’s a freeware.
- During installation, if you check the tweaks check box, you will get the iconized taskbar. All the
- If you like it, then check it.
- It can be disabled or enabled later.
- After installation, rebooting is up to you. You may or you may not, both works fine for the rest of the process.
For the new addressbar in Win 7, download and install QT Addressbar from Wikidot. It’s also a freeware.
- After installation, go to my computer.
- Right click on the menubar > Disable addressbar.
- Right click on the menubar > Enable QT Breadcrumbs Address Bar.
- Then unlock the toolbars, pull the QT Breadcrumbs Address Bar down to create its own bar.
- Done!! You now have the new addressbar like in Win 7!!!
For the HDD progress meter of Win 7, download and install Vista Drive Icon from artArmin. Even this one is a freeware. In fact, it is open source.
- After installation, start the program.
- Done! Visit my computer to see the progress bar below each HDD partition.
For better iconized taskbar and taskbar thumbnails, download and install ViGlance from Lee-Soft. Still we stick to freeware
. It can pin programs in taskbar, gives start menu button hover animation (Seven Remix XP gives just an image) and taskbar transparency (not so good). But, this ware has a few bugs that can ruin your Win 7 feel. The bottom-left of the screen isn’t start menu (so you will have to keep your cursor on the button and click). The thumbnail generation malfunctions many times. So I don’t recommend it much. Just try it.
- After installing, start it.
- Right click icon in the system tray.
- Options > Start ViGlance with Windows.
- Done!!
For the start menu of Win 7, download and install ViStart from Lee-Soft. This freeware gives you the Win 7 start menu to your XP machine. It’s really great!! It’s got transparency too. The search is not so good in finding applications.
- Start the application after installing it.
- Right click its icon in the system tray.
- Options > Start with Windows.
- Finished!!!
All set and done. Now, just restart your system once or twice to get the stunning looks of Windows Seven. I’m using these in my Samsung netbook. It boots in ~40 seconds. Thanks for reading!!
